the maaskant polychoral style was a type of music of the late modern electronics and early indie eras which involved spatially separate voices singing in alternation. it represented a major stylistic shift from the prevailing polyphonic writing of the early electronic generation, and was one of the major stylistic developments of the 90s which led directly to the formation of what we now know as the pure modern style. a commonly encountered term for the separated analog choirs is cori analogici spezzati literally, phased choirs. the a-side, featuring eyo olokun, signifies unfathomable deep grooves. that is, the instinct that there is something worth knowing, perhaps more than can ever be learned, especially this bassline that most people spend a lifetime pondering.

nice price deal !!! raw waxes continues the release number four with one more original track from the noisemaker. the edition 4.2 is enriched by the remixes of korova, duo who were protagonists of our first release, and inigo kennedy, old school artist truly appreciated by raw waxes. on side c, point x15 advances as an acid robot going ahead with swollen broken baselines covering sinister and rough ambients. the rhythm gets darker and nimbler as far as the stylus moves on the decks. on the side d, korova delivers the mirror of their hypnotic and straight techno soul. drums play hard, ambients are kept happily enjoyable, while the acid synths and chords go with the flow embellishing the original version. inigo kennedys reinterpretation seems to come from early 90 productions on missile records. acid elements and palpitating hi-hats, followed by the syncopated bass drum, gradually fire the minds up and accelerate the roll of weird but deep moments. pure industrial machine guns.

nofitstate return with four tracks from hot talent a1 bassline whose reputation has been building of late from a succession of releases for the likes of dirtybird, get physical and gruuv amongst others. here hidden agenda finds the young producer in true devastating form. skippy percussion, a nod to the uks garage scene, vibes the track along nicely whilst the bass does the damage. burnt out piano island delves deeper, acting as a neat counterpoint to the more main room agenda. here the style is much more nuanced with a more hypnotic leaning. outsider picks up the pace against, albeit in a subtle, uplifting vibe with warped pianos and razor sharp percussion. t moe p rounds things off nicely with a moody bassline driven groove.

the highly promising loopy opens its account with a double dose of disorientating, hypnotic botheration from nz-er oliver peryman, ex of labels like samurai horo, tri angle and exit. both cuts are curtly compelling: ss is darting and hyper, knecht more haunted, percussive. on the flip, kassem mosse contributes some elastic, bubbling funk, with characteristic panache, and oren ambarchi settles in for twelve minutes of the frighteners. an excellent ep. watch out for loopy.
after making waves with early and idiosyncratic eps on labels like rush hour and astro:dynamics, singular uk talent bnjmn now steps up to make his debut on delsin with six tracks of experimental and inventive noise and techno. coil opens his account with screechy, unnerving synths squeals, imposing and throbbing pads and super deep kick drums that come at you from miles below. it s a hugely textured and spine tingling affair before the ambiance of berth comes rippled with glassy and alien little melodies. merge has turbo charged drums hiding beneath more unsettled synth based noise that sound sernee at the same time as being paranoid. on the flip, and suddenly makes your hairs stand on end with is gothic celestial glow and slithering synth patterns, blown is a damaged and degraded bit of icy, thumping and reverb heavy techno and azure ends on a brain soothing, chilled out ambient high. these are the sort of truly unique and magically textured tracks you would expect from a producer like bnjmn, and mark a fine debut on delsin.

mallorcas dakpa has been on a roll since amam released his debut ep last fall. he has contributed to several compilations, including amams own hand out series, kina music s fade to k pt. 3 and wizz vinyl s sonar sampler 2014, plus eps for labels like district raw and serial number 849. but amam gets the honor of issuing his first own vinyl release, the distres ep. the opening title track is an exercise in jacking minimalism, vibrant tech house with just the essentials, but more than enough to get the floor moving. then, ademus gets into a slightly more colorful groove, with tropical percussive interplay and some whooping voice for a humanistic accent (is that brigitte bardot?). on the flip, virgo gives a modern update to the frenzy of acid house. the title alone brings virgo four to mind. on that note, this one is an effective tool for warping minds and evoking spastic dance moves. finally, the dependable gaetano vinci a.k.a. hooved reinterprets ademus with a heavy dose of melodic funk and symphonic washes, making the track into an entirely new creation.

outboxx return to brstl two years on from their first release on the label, tougher and more dance floor focused. although primarily known for deeper house sounds for labels such as futureboogie, they have never been afraid to experiment as exemplified on their debut lp for idle hands. here they turn their attention to deep techno, with two stripped back cuts that retain the warmth of their other productions. sequential circles drills down on a singular, angular riff whilst neatly deployed percusiion hits at just the right moments. moon loop whirls round on a deep spacey groove in keeping with its title. another strong release from the bristol focused brstl label.

the culmination of four years writing and editing, anjou marks the first collaboration between labradfords robert donne and mark nelson since the release of that groups *fixed:context* lp. combining modular synthesis, max/msp programming and live instrumentation, anjou deftly weaves noise with gentle ambience and melody with texture. guitar, bass and steven hess (locrian, fennesz, pan american) live percussion give the eight pieces an immediacy and create a framework for the more abstract sounds of digital and analog synth programming. the product of twenty plus years of friendship, anjou is refined and challenging. an extension of the labradford sound-world but no mere victory lap, anjou represents donne and nelson stepping out and forward, their eyes firmly focusing on the future.

in 2011, julia thompson (dj black b1tch) gave me a tdk sa90 tape of a spontaneous live jam by insync recorded in her flat in forest hill, south london in march 1991. she had found it in a drawer when clearing out stuff. she gave it to me to listen to simply thinking i might be interested in hearing it. of course i was, particularly because the date on the tape immediately told me that the session was recorded more than a year before the release of insyncs debut, the seminal storm on irdial discs.

producer and boss of mathematics records, jamal moss a.k.a hieroglyphic being is a one-off musical explorer. jamals music takes cues from the ebm and house that played a huge part in the city s musical underground in the late eighties and early nineties, notably ron hardy and adonis, but also industrial, avant-jazz and noise. his tireless schedule of rough low-key releases over the last 12 years and his intense, very physical, psychedelic music, have made him a key exponent or maybe even a pioneer of what has recently come to be named outsider house, although he prefers the more sun-ra like descriptors of rhythmic cubism and cosmic be-bop.
